Jubilee Beacon Lighting
On Thursday 2nd June, the beacon in the Peace Park was lit to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The beacon was lit by Joyce Harrison and her great-grandson, Archie Bromley, who were both nominated by Joyce's granddaughter Cate.
The evening began with Councillor Tony Twigger giving a short speech about Joyce and Archie and welcoming the community to the lighting ceremony. Thrapston Town Band then began the official format, with a bugler playing 'Majesty'. The beacon was then lit at 9.45pm, in line with all the other beacons across the UK, with Joyce and Archie doing the honours. Thrapston Plaza Opera then sang a beautiful rendition of 'A Song For The Commonwealth' accompanied by Thrapston Town Band, with the 'National Anthem' rounding off the festivities.
The turn out from the community was fantastic and it was wonderful to see Joyce and Archie so well supported.
