The King's Coronation Celebration

The King's Coronation Celebration

The King's Coronation was a momentous occasion for the whole country when it took place over the weekend of Saturday 6th May. Thrapston Town Council, supported by community funds from The National Lottery and North Northamptonshire Council, held a six-hour extravaganza for the local community to celebrate. Despite the weather and regular downpours, it was great to see so many people brave the weather and come together. The afternoon kicked off with a fantastic performance from Thrapston Primary School Choir, followed by the brilliant Thrapston Amateur Dramatics Society performing two Victoria Wood skits. Amazing dance acts came from Thrapston-based, Dynamix Dance Company and also the Dani Harmer Academy of Performing Arts. The children were then treated to a fun disco, filled with all the family favourites and entertainment from stilt walkers dressed in their Union Jack finest. Local face painting company, Arty Designs, were on hand to decorate faces with superheroes, unicorns and lots of flags.

Families also enjoyed Punch & Judy shows, bubble entertainment and balloon modelling, and the fantastic animatronic characters were extremely popular with everyone there.

The Deluxe Band had the whole park up on their feet with a toe-stomping set list featuring hits spanning the last 40 years. The event closed with a moving and poignant 'Last Night of the Proms' performance from Thrapston Plaza Opera and Orchestra, which due to the weather, was moved to St James' Church. The audience were given bio-degradable Union Jack flags and the church was a sea of red, white and blue while 'Land of Hope and Glory' was played.

A huge thank you to DSV and Thrapston Farm and Garden for their sponsorship of the event.
